It was fantastic to get back to taking John Muir groups out again and we have been asked to pilot the Young Foresters Award and it links nicely with the John Muir Award so Monday's group has made a start by lookig at our woodland and finding our what is safe and what risks are in our school woods.
They found tree stumps which they thought could be trip hazards and many broken and damaged branches which could cause scrapes to us and also be a source of disease for the tree so we brough out a shovel, bow saw, hand saws and lopers and got busy cutting, sawing and digging out the hazards.
The children worked well as a team and took turns sharing the equipment and helping each other as well as pointing out hazards for each other to tackle, I really was impressed with their positive attitude and determination to complete their jobs no matter how physical it was!
