The P7 group were keen to return to the canal banks and remove five fly tipped tyres from there. They worked together to shift the dumped tyres and rehomed them in the school playground!

Bird Feeders Mon Group

They went out and made a mixture of sunflower seeds, mealworms and suet pellets with butter to bind it altogether and pressed their mix into coconut shells. Next they hung them around our woodland. They also had a shot of the ancient craft of coppicing-when you cut a stem to encourage more shoots of a tree eg hazel. Used in olden times To produce lengths of hazel For weaving baskets and seat coverings.

Tuesday Group p7

Today the group finished off their explore and discover challenges of observing and drawing trees and looking closely at leaves and bark for distinguishing characteristics. They have found a diseased tree which appears to be dead and have marked it for felling next week to save the disease spreading further to other trees.

Final sessions of 2020

P6 and P7 groups made it outside this week for the final time before term ends. One group created a loG circle from some freshly chopped logs acquired at the weekend from a friendly tree surgeon while another read about John Muir’s long walk and went on a exploratory walk of the area naming any plants and wildlife that they noticed.
